Hi all,
In the wake of the devastation that Superstorm Sandy caused, we would like to introduce a new blog bow to help out our friends affected by the storm, especially those in Staten Island, where the damage was particularly severe. All proceeds from the bow will go to the American Red Cross's relief efforts.
Severe weather events like this one are becoming more and more commonplace; many believe that climate change is to blame. We encourage everyone to tune into the Climate Reality Project's 24 Hours of Reality: The Dirty Weather Report on November 14 at 8pm EST to learn more about this. This event will feature scientists, celebrities, and activists from across the globe who are determined to make a difference when it comes to the climate crisis. We'll certainly be watching, and we hope you will be too!

News
Hi Everyone,
We've been focusing a lot in recent months on helping the Red Cross and natural disaster victims. However, now we want to get back to the issues that we founded Gem to support. When we began Gem, we began it to support the We Campaign, which was very successful and has ended. However, the Alliance for Climate Protection is still working very hard on other projects. Right now, they are working on the Climate Reality Project, with a very active blog and presenters traveling all over the world to spread the word on climate change. Currently, the Climate Reality Project is working on the Living on Thin Ice Campaign, warning the public of some of the most frightening effects climate change could have. Melting glaciers, rising sea levels, and loss of snowpack are just some of those effects. Browse the Climate Reality Project at http://climaterealityproject.org, and be sure to check out the multitude of ways to get involved, whether it be requesting a presenter in your town, organizing your own climate change expedition, or even just staying informed through the mailing list. We will continue to support them with bow purchases. Thank you for your support,
Gem!

Haiti Needs Our Help
Hello Gem Friends!
Happy 2010
We were very busy toward the end of last year with filling Gem orders online and restocking our Gem supply at Saratoga Dance Store. After the Holidays we tallied up the money that we collected for We.
Because of the recent earthquake Gem has decided that Haiti needs our help at this very moment. We are sending a donation to them through a website that Al Gore and the We Campaign recommended, in the amount of $476.00.
Please see the attached letter from the we campaign to find out how you can donate Now.
The earthquake in Haiti has been catastrophic. More than three million people have been affected, and estimates are that over 50,000 have died. The human suffering is unimaginable.
That's why I'd like to pause from our usual conversation and ask for your help.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 85% of Haitians already living in desperate poverty. Now, with hospitals in ruin, dire shortages of even basic necessities like fresh water, and no way to find out whether family members are alive, the Haitian people urgently need our help.
A number of organizations are already engaged in critical relief efforts, and I urge you to support as many of them as you can. One of them, Oxfam America, has an emergency response team of more than 200 people already on the ground. The need for clean water and critical public health services is massive and immediate -- and our donations can help save lives.
Make a donation to Oxfam's earthquake relief effort in Haiti:
http://acp.climateprotect.org/oxfam
Or, for a list of other organizations to donate to and ways to make a difference, seehttp://www.whitehouse.gov/haitiearthquake_embed.
There are moments when we, as human beings, must come together as a global community and as stewards of each others' health and welfare. It is that sense of interconnectedness that brought each of us to the climate movement, and it is moments like this that bring out the best in us -- as individuals, as a nation, and as a movement.
Let's make sure the people of Haiti do not face this disaster alone. Thank you for taking action in the face of this tragedy.

Even More Donations to We
This summer was really busy for us, and also for the We Campaign. On July 17th Al Gore challenged the United States to a 10 year plan to create alternative power solutions to free us from the crisis that we are now in. We were in different parts of NY but we heard his plan and were invited to his conference call the next day. After listening, We were so inspired and started to raise more money for the alliance. We made lots more bows in Chautauqua during Gabby's Dance program, and sold them to fellow dancers from all over the U.S. We told them about We and hope they pass on the message to their friends and family.
Also at the same time Our friends at SARATOGA DANCE STORE sold out the supply that we gave to them to sell. So..........
In September we sent along another donation of
$180 to the We can solve the Climate Crisis Campaign.
That brings our total to almost $500.00 in 6 months!!!!!!!! We are proud of our efforts and so is the We Campaign. We hope to continue and we appreciate everyone's support.
